Old Charter 8 year old

Well I do like the unassuming and unpretentious labeling of this mid price bourbon. They have dressed up the label with some gold recently. As far as the whiskey goes this is very very smooth, but there is fine line between smooth and bland.

Jim Beam - Devil's Cut

Devil's Cut on Easter. The marketing boys from Frankfort got me on this. The Devil's Cut is a play on the angels' share associated with barrell aging of distilled spirits, and actually it's pretty good. It does taste like Jim Beam, but has a stronger flavor.

McAfee's Benchmark Old No 8

All this blogging has made me so thirsty.

McAfee's Benchmark Old No 8. It came from the bottom shelf at the liquor store, so it is cheap enough. It's cowboy whiskey for sure. In case you didn't know cowboy whiskey comes in a square bottle so it doesn't roll out from under the seat in your pick-up truck. The black label and old no. 8 make you think you have Jack Daniels, but you don't. This is still an easy drinking whiskey that only needs ice.

Ancient Age - 80 Proof

This is good one. I think this is the oldest or oldest family owned distillery or some such claim. Pretty decent drink. I know I have one of these bottles that very old somewhere. I really need to dig it out. That one is brown glass with just the AA and the pin stripping embossed on the glass. I think it's in the attic at my dad's shop.

Priced right.

Jim Beam - 7 year

Jim Beam 7 year. Not a rare bottle or old bottle, but I figured it was a standard overall and worth showing.

I wanted to show this label for sure. I'm thinking my older bottles will not have Fred Noe on it. I'll have to do some digging to check.

Geez, not very cheap for sure. I think I used to get a handle regular Beam for this much in college.
